The Supposed 'Feminists' Behind Pres. Biden...
Pres. Biden's feminist advisors failed him and us. Most Americans oppose Biden's order giving biological men who identify as women the 'right' to compete on girls' / women's sports teams.
If I had a sports award to hand out, Cynthia Millen would be a finalist.
Millen was a USAA swimming official in Toledo, OH, who resigned in December 2021 after 30 years of service “because it was unfair for bodies that are male to be swimming against bodies that are female. This is about bodies. No amount of testosterone suppression drugs will change the body of a male to a female.”
She’s an ordinary woman with extraordinary good sense who went the distance.
What I don’t understand is why so many women who are paid to carry the torch of feminism have utterly betrayed the rights of women in recent years?
On his first day in office, Pres. Joe Biden blithely signed an executive order that has proven to be one of the most unpopular policies ever foisted on the American public. He guaranteed an educational environment free from discrimination “on the basis of sex, including sexual orientation or gender identity.” No one had studied the consequences of this sweeping action on women.
The American people are incredibly generous and kind and no one wants trans people to suffer unfair discrimination. At the same time, it’s ludicrous to make female athletes compete with biological males, who have at least a 10 percent strength advantage.
Biden was encouraged and cheered on by women’s groups with roots in the feminist movement, including the Women’s Sports Foundation and the National Women’s Law Center. They said transgender athletes who were born male but identify as women have a “human right” to play on girls and women’s sports teams (and to enter heretofore private female spaces, like bathrooms and sex segregated prisons).
A small number of courageous women had the courage to stand up and say the emperor has no clothes.
Millen left her refereeing duties after Lia Thomas came out as a transgender in 2019. He spent three mediocre years on the men’s team at the University of Pennsylvania. But Thomas smashed Penn swimming records on the women’s team, and became the first transgender athlete to win an NCAA Division 1 national championship.
(As a post-script - Thomas was nominated by Penn for the 2022 NCAA Woman of the year but lost the competition Monday when the award went to Columbia University fencer Sylvie Binder, a biological female.)
Where’s The Accountability?
One only has to look at Thomas, who is 6’-4” with a muscular torso and long arms, to see how unfair it was to make women compete against her. Thomas literally towers over her female teammates and competitors.
Meanwhile, women’s rights organizations sat idly by while truly courageous women like J.K. Rowling were harassed and women like Millen felt compelled to step down.
The leaders of the Women’s Sports Foundation and the National Women’s Law Caucus either lacked the intellectual capacity to understand the stakes for women, or they lacked the courage to stand up for women. Where is the accountability? They should resign.
A poll by Pew Research last month showed Americans strongly oppose allowing transgender female athletes to compete on women’s and girls’ sports teams. An NPR/Ipsos poll found 63% are in opposition, while a Pew Research poll found that that six-in-ten (58%) of adults are in opposition.
Reached Tuesday, Millen said: “I’ve gotten much private support from coaches, swimmers, and other officials. I’m thrilled to hear that more are speaking out, but it is very disappointing that more “feminists” are not standing up, and will not even define ‘woman.’”
