Queen Elizabeth II Was A Symbol Of Positive Aging
She chose not to accept the stereotypical limitations routinely imposed by society on older people, and no one could force her to do so.
Great Britain’s reigning monarch, Queen Elizabeth, 96, never stopped working for the good of her people.
Earlier this week, the Queen officially greeted Britain’s new Prime Minister Liz Truss. The diminutive Queen was pictured slightly stooped over, gripping a cane in one hand, with a beaming smile and outstretched hand.
Queen Elizabeth continued to carry out the important duties of the job of reigning monarch until her death on Thursday.
One of the first real public indicators the Queen suffered serious age-related problems came in May when she was forced to cancel her planned delivery of the traditional Queen’s Speech at the opening of Britain’s parliament. She reportedly was having difficulty walking. She delegated the task of reading her speech to her 76-year-old son, Prince Charles.
To what do we attribute Queen Elizabeth’s rich and fruitful old age?
Probably the biggest factor was Queen Elizabeth’s strong will. She wanted to serve and obviously believed she was best qualified to serve.
And her health permitted it.
She maintained a healthy lifestyle. She ate and drank in moderation, attended church regularly, and got lots of exercise. Queen Elizabeth was pictured in 2020 on horseback on the grounds of Windsor Castle!
Of course, it is not irrelevant that Queen Elizabeth had access to the world’s best medical care, unlimited resources to draw upon for support, and an extended, loving family.
Slings, Arrows
But like all mere mortals, Queen Elizabeth was not spared the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune, particularly recent years.
Her husband, the Prince of Wales, died last year after an unpleasant car accident. Her youngest son, Prince Andrew, was enmeshed in a ghastly scandal involving a minor girl and the late pedophile Jeffrey Epstein that required a payout earlier this year. Her seemingly emotionally fragile grandson, Harry, and his capitalist American wife, have seized every opportunity to cash in on the royal family.
Throughout it all, Queen Elizabeth upheld the quiet dignity of her office as Head of the Commonwealth, Defender of the Faith.
“Never complain, Never explain,” was said to be the Queen’s motto.
